What Makes Alfa Romeo Different In The Luxury Segment? The Driving Experience

One of the greatest freedoms we continue to enjoy as humans is driving. There's nothing quite like taking to the road in our vehicles and enjoying the world that surrounds us. Our cars are extensions of our being and through them, we get to experience feelings of control, safety, and satisfaction.

While all vehicles can be "driven", not all of them provide the same degree of connection with our environs. Frankly, even today's sporty premium cars and SUVs have lost what was once a highlight of owning one. Not all is lost however as Alfa Romeo has always believed in the driving experience and that remains true today.

The power to make it happen

No matter what trim is selected, including the new Sprint versions of the Giulia and Stelvio, all are equipped with one of the most powerful standard engines in their respective segments. The turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine produces 280 horsepower and an impressive 306 lb.-ft. of torque. With this kind of power, the Alfa Romeos are among the quickest of their kind.

If more is what is required, look no further than the Quadrifoglio iterations. The included twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 engine delivers a heart-stopping 505 horsepower and 443 lb.-ft of torque. Speed will always be on the menu as, for example, the Stelvio will reach 97 km/h from a standstill in only 3.6 seconds.

Being in control

Alfa Romeo engineers did not overlook the most crucial of elements when it comes to performance: control. While both the Giulia and Stelvio are delivered with Alfa's state-of-the-art Q4 all-wheel-drive system as standard, it consists in only one way that control is put into the driver's hands.

Both vehicles are assembled on a highly-rigid, lightweight platform that serves as the foundation on which is grafted a highly-evolved chassis. The suspension is tuned to provide optimal grip in all circumstances, from the road to the track. The steering's ratio and precision are unlike anything else on the market - the very first tug on the steering wheel will be tremendously revealing.

The structure's balance and neutrality are part and parcel of this all-important sense of control. Never does the chassis feel overwhelmed by the available power. Such unison between driver and vehicle builds an incredible feeling of confidence.

Driving an Alfa Romeo is an event unto itself. It is rewarding, enthralling, and empowering. A stronger sentiment of freedom, there is not.
