2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia vs. 2021 Volvo S60

2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia vs. 2021 Volvo S60: A Unique Connection with the Road

Horsepower, handling and style are some of the qualities a sports sedan should have. And although some manufacturers claim that their models check all three boxes, there is a lot more to a great sports sedan.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is in a class of its own. It provides unique performances from class-leading engines with exclusive lightweight components and technology, all wrapped in an Italian-styled package that makes heads turn. However, there is much more to the Giulia than the eye can see.

Here, we compare it to the 2021 Volvo S60

Power and performance, the Italian way

The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia is offered in four trim levels: Sprint, Ti and Ti Sport as well as the Quadrifoglio. The first three trims are powered by an all-aluminum, 2.0-litre, direct-injection turbocharged engine with 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The Volvo S60's base engine is the T5. It is also a 2.0-litre engine but it outputs less than the Giulia's base engine, with 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.

The more expensive T6 option on the S60 has a bit more horsepower, but loses the torque battle with the Giulia's base engine.

The Giulia's Quadrifoglio variant is powered by the Ferrari-derived, 2.9-litre, 505-horsepower V6 twin-turbocharged engine that obliterates every option in the S60 lineup in terms of horsepower. The Giulia Quadrifoglio features a best-in-class power-to-weight ratio of three kilograms per horsepower.

But beyond horsepower numbers, the Giulia is more agile and uses components that the S60 doesn't, like a carbon fibre driveshaft that helps the Giulia put the power to the ground more efficiently.

A more inspired interior in the 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia

Inside, the Alfa Romeo Giulia offers more style. With a richer colour palette to choose from, the Giulia is bolder and more expressive than the S60. It offers a wide variety of colour schemes with contrast stitching so owners can curate their own driving environment.

Outside, buyers can also choose from a wide variety of colours, as well as bold Nero Edizione, Lusso or Carbon appearance packages depending on the model and availability.

One of the most important things the Giulia has over the S60 is a real, genuine connection with the road that provides inspired drives every time. Contact us or come and see us for more information.
