2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia vs. 2021 Acura TLX: Motorsport Expression in a Sport Sedan
When the average sports sedan isn't enough, and you require a true original that has its soul present in every detail, then Giulia should be on your list. It transforms generations of Alfa Romeo motorsport expertise into a premium vehicle that is now a segment leader. Each Giulia has powerful engines, a long list of standard features, expressive Italian style, and technology that boosts performance and safety.
It is important to compare Giulia to the competition to help illustrate how special this vehicle is. Here, we compare it to the 2021 Acura TLX.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia deploys performance to its fullest potential
The Giulia features four models, including Sprint, Ti, Ti Sport and Quadrifoglio. All models except the Quadrifoglio include a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque. Alfa Romeo engineers tuned this powertrain so it achieves class-leading acceleration of 0 to 97 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
The TLX also includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, except it delivers slightly less horsepower at 272, and 26 lb-ft less torque. With its abundant torque, the Giulia has more response that boosts acceleration, but also provides a more engaging driving experience.
The 2021 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is at the top
The Giulia creates the ultimate in mechanical expression with the Quadrifoglio model. Featuring a 2.9-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder that generates 505 horsepower, it is the fastest production car in the Alfa Romeo family. It achieves a 0 to 97 km/h time of 3.8 seconds.
The TLX attempts to spice things up with the new Type S. Powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder, the Type S manages 355 horsepower. However, this is much closer to Giulia's standard engine output than its class-leading high-performance unit.
The Quadrifoglio moves further ahead with a class-leading power-to-weight ratio that contributes to its outstanding performance. Add the adaptive performance suspension, dynamic controls, and a torque vectoring rear differential, and the Quadrifoglio fully outclasses the TLX and any other sedan in the segment.
The Giulia isn't all about numbers. It also integrates complex driver assistance technologies that keep you safe. Standard ADAS features level 1 and 2 autonomy in several systems embedded in each model. The TLX only offers very few standard systems compared to the Giulia.
